Chapter 1: In the beginning...
(by Debra L. Frost send e-mail visit homepage, added on 01/29/01 02:11 PM EST)

Once upon a new millenium there was a pair of web designers. They wanted to offer all manner of new and fancy gadgets to their visitors so they decided to start a community. The Krystal Communinity to be exact. And off they set to add scripts for the weather, news, story telling, forums, cards, games and so much more. The scripts were tricky but...

Chapter 2: webaholics anonymous
(by KimBee send e-mail visit homepage, added on 01/29/01 03:28 PM EST)

...they had each other! And what the one couldn't figure out, the other could. The trouble was, as soon as one of them figured out how to get one CGI script working, the other would think of something new to add. Pretty soon their "CGI Resources" bookmark files were teetering on the brink of 1 meg, and they had so many modules they wanted to add to their website that they couldn't remember which one they were working on last and whether or not they had got it working... and all the while they kept thinking up still more stuff they wanted to add to their community! If this kept up, they might bring the entire internet to a screeching halt! Fortunately, one day...

Chapter 3: And the scripting goes on...
(by Debra L. Frost send e-mail visit homepage, added on 02/01/01 08:55 AM EST)

almost all of the scripts and special add ons they wanted to have for KrystalRose were uploaded and working correctly. There was only some minor tweaking left to get things completed and ready to launch to the world wide web! But then one day, before they knew what happened...

Chapter 4: be careful what you ask for...
(by KimBee send e-mail visit homepage, added on 02/01/01 04:08 PM EST)

...suddenly people DISCOVERED the little Web Community! Maybe it was because they individually, each unbeknownst to the other, spent a whole day submitting their site to search engines, or maybe it was just the Way of the Web coming around, but suddenly people started visiting, and staying, and creating homepages and talking in the forum and getting to know one another. Mutual support groups blossomed all over the Forums, and the two webmistresses had to allow a lot more entries to remain on the Chat window at once because so many people were chatting so fast.

And then the people started asking for more stuff - like web-based email with "krystalrose" in the address, and a page to share their favorite links. Other web community portals started writing to ask if they would like to participate in mutual linkback programs. It looked as if they might have to hire a secretary just to handle all the email! And that's when...

Chapter 5: Argh!
(by KimBee send e-mail visit homepage, added on 04/03/03 03:38 PM EST)

...Their ISP, bowing to pressure from the Anti-spam coalition that was blacklisting them because their server was so easy to compromise, altered a bunch of essential functions, such as the Perl bin and the Sendmail, so that a bunch of the scripts started failing. Krystal Community members could still send KrystalMail, for instance, but none of the KrystalMail members could receive mail. Even worse, Krystal Angel post cards started getting lost on the way to the people they were sent to bless! How sad to think of those poor angels stuck in limbo like that... :(

The two webmistresses knew something had to change. They began shopping for a new ISP, one like their old one at Pagesz.net that had been so wonderful, a nice little local company that had unfortunately been bought out by one of those mega-commerce companies when the big e-bubble burst in the late '90's. Finally they found one, a new local guy who even allowed Shell access. Could it be possible things could return to normal?

BUT FIRST, before the webmistresses went ahead and switched their domain over to the new host, they completely revamped the entire Krystal Community web site, installing new scripts altogether in many cases so that their members could, with a single log-in, send mail, work on their little web homes in Krystal Cove, pop on over to the bulletin board to discuss matters of the heart, and even open up message windows to chat individually or in groups. This promised to rock, when it was all ready, but it was a LOT Of work and when would they ever have time to finish it, what with their both having day jobs to worry about, too?

Chapter 6: And now for something completely different
(by KimBee send e-mail visit homepage, added on 08/14/03 04:42 PM EST)

Well, not COMPLETLY different. They slowly got all of the modules back up and running, but not in the same way as before. They decided to break their Community down into Neighborhoods for the different kinds of Souls who visited there - after all, we are all different, and each have our own strengths and preferences.

They thought that maybe, someday, they would slowly find and enlist certain special, dedicated individuals to be the Administrators for each neighborhood...!
